The FA – Growth of Women’s Football

The FA recently published an article celebrating the significant growth of women’s football during what they call a "historic four years for the game." The rapid rise in popularity, propelled by the Lionesses’ triumph as European champions and their achievement as World Cup finalists, marks an exciting era for the sport in England and the UK.

Key findings from the FA's study reveal a 56% increase in women and girls participating in football. Furthermore, 77% of schools now offer equal access to football for girls. This progress is vital in creating pathways for young talent—not just for players who dream of competing on the grandest stages, but also for those interested in coaching, managing, and other roles within the female sports industry.

Another significant milestone highlighted in the report is an 88% rise in the number of female coaches between 2020 and 2024. This is a crucial step toward achieving the FA’s vision of a more inclusive and accessible professional game. The establishment of 73 talent centres across the country further reinforces this mission, offering high-quality training environments to players from underrepresented groups and economically disadvantaged areas.

Baroness Sue Campbell, Director of Women’s Football, noted:

"It is remarkable what has been achieved in just four years across all levels, with more women and girls stepping forward to play, coach, officiate, and participate as fans. But there is still more work to be done for the sport to reach the heights we know it can grow to. It is our continued mission to increase diversity and make the women’s game an accurate representation of our society. We’re seeing an improvement, but we cannot rest on our laurels, and we need to ensure every woman and girl, regardless of their background, can access football and enjoy the benefits it brings. There is every reason to be excited about where our game goes next, and I cannot wait to see where we will be in another four years’ time."

At Add Management, we’re inspired by these steps forward and remain committed to supporting women and girls as they navigate the footballing world. Whether it’s guiding talent through their playing careers, advocating for equitable opportunities, or nurturing the next generation of female coaches and sports professionals, we are proud to play our part in shaping the future of the game.
